A handful of us are participating in a sponsored walk through the night for a dear friend, Ella Portman, to raise money for her alternative Cancer treatment.

What the walk is all about:
Ella Portman is a remarkable woman, teacher, healer and friend who has Myeloma, which is a form of Cancer which attacks the bones and the immune system, and has been extremely ill for the past 7 months. Ella has been amazing through it all and Andy (Ella's husband) has been unbelievable in the strength of support that he has given her. There is no "cure" for the cancer, however, there is a possibility that it could go into remission for an immeasurable time.
Ella has had varied medical support, including intense chemotherapy, and she has made a little headway in recovery up to now. She also receives Chinese Acupuncture and Chinese herbs from an accomplished teacher, practitioner and Principal of a Chinese Medical School in London, who has to come to visit her at home as Ella is mostly bed bound. This treatment is costly as he is travelling from London to treat her and so this is eating into their diminishing funds, however, Ella is at last showing some improvement since she's begun the treatment, although the Cancer is still present. Ella is also supporting her body through a holistic diet and supplements alongside other alternative approaches to her illness. The cost of this alternative treatment for her Myeloma is currently running at between £600-£700 per month.
So... I was inspired to help them as they have been such an immense support and inspiration to me and so many others through their dedication and supportive work - and I feel that it is time they got some of the good stuff back! There are a handful of us prepared to walk in the moonlight 15 miles along most of this ancient route to show our respect and love for Ella and to raise the funds for her continuing treatment, so please support us! Ella & Andy have had over thirty eight years experience as group facilitators and healers. In the early 80's they both trained in Conscious Breathwork and Andy also in Shiatsu and Ella in spiritual healing. They have held regular weekend, long term groups, healing camps and practitioner trainings since 1987 and have been personally practising the Taoist practices over the last twenty years and have been teaching and integrating these Taoist meditations and healing practices into their work in groups and sessions for the last sixteen years. Since 1998 they have been developing a five acre site at Avalon Permaculture Gardens near Glastonbury as a personal growth centre where they have held a range of courses and individual sessions that give support for making real and healthy changes in life, relationships and in the world. They grow much of their own food, and produce their own energy from sun and wind, have recently finished self building their low impact, straw bale, timber frame, off grid ecohouse with the view to living simply, close to the earth - with a low carbon footprint.
